Welcome to my tasting diary: Wine Repository and Wine Study
This is my Tasting Diary, a space where I collect every wine I try, break down its characteristics and try to understand it better. It's my personal archive, a place where a passion for wine meets the urge to dig deeper and share.
My roots: from the home of Vernaccia to the world of wine
My name is Matteo and I'm from Baratili San Pietro, a small town in Sardinia in the province of Oristano. The place is known for its Vernaccia di Oristano DOC, a one-of-a-kind wine and a symbol of my homeland's winemaking tradition. Until I moved to Milan, I took part in the harvest every year, a special time that brought together tradition and community.
Even though my bond with wine was always strong, it stayed a personal passion until a few years ago. Everything changed when I wrote a short contribution for the book “Digital marketing for wine“ by Susana Alonso. Not long after, I started working for Tannico, the Italian leader in wine e-commerce, where I was able to deepen my knowledge and grow a real passion for this world.
A tasting diary between passion and technology
First as a developer, now as a CTO, I found inspiration in the concept of repository, an organised archive where data is collected in a structured way. That led me to build tools to catalogue and analyse the wines I taste.
I started by buying a wine rack and some labels so I could build a small wine collection, which over time turned into a passion. Out of that need I developed a plugin to manage my cellar and a system to document every tasting, compare notes and analyse the technical details of each wine.
My blog: studying wine and giving back to the community
This blog isn't just a personal archive: it's my channel for studying wine. Here I share tasting notes, explore new wine regions and offer tips for enthusiasts and the merely curious.
The blog was built entirely with WordPress, and three of the plugins it uses are public and released under a free licence:
- Wine Cellar Manager: to manage wine collections.
- Map in Each Post: to embed interactive maps in posts.
- Search with Wine-Searcher: to find the best wines online.

My passion for wine keeps me discovering new labels, each with its own story to tell. That's why I created a page dedicated to the Top 30 of my favourite wines, an always up-to-date selection of the bottles that struck me most.
