The Vin de Savoie IGP - Vin des Allobroges appellation covers the wines produced in the Savoie region, in south-eastern France, at the foot of the Alps. This Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) is one of Savoie's main appellations, alongside the AOC Vin de Savoie, and offers greater flexibility in winemaking and in the use of grape varieties than the AOC classification. The name Vin des Allobroges refers to the Celtic Allobroges people, who lived in these lands in Roman times and were among the first to grow vines in the region. The wines of this IGP are known for their freshness, minerality and great drinkability, thanks to the Alpine climate and soils rich in limestone and marl.

Who makes it: Domaine des Ardoisières
Domaine des Ardoisières is one of the most fascinating estates in French Alpine winegrowing. The winery lies near Frétaz, in Savoie, on extreme slopes that are difficult to work, reclaimed from 1998 onwards on the initiative of Michel Grisard and today managed by Brice Omont. The estate’s philosophy is based on heroic, biodynamic and non-interventionist viticulture, aimed at expressing the purity of the native grape varieties and of the mountain terroir.

Jacquère
Jacquère is a white grape variety native to Savoie, in south-eastern France. It is known for the production of fresh, light and mineral wines, characterised by marked acidity and low alcohol. This variety is the soul of mountain wines, grown on the alpine slopes where the cool climate and the limestone soils give the wines extraordinary elegance and salinity. Jacquère-based wines are perfect for drinking young and stand out for their extreme drinkability, which makes them ideal as aperitifs or paired with mountain cooking and local cheeses.

Vallée de la Tarentaise
The Vallée de la Tarentaise, in the Savoie department in the Savoie wine region (south-eastern France), is a high-altitude Alpine area still little known, but of great interest for heroic viticulture. Rare, authentic wines are made here, the result of an extreme mountain environment, with vineyards often terraced and planted on steep slopes. Thanks to the combination of poor soils, a cool climate with marked temperature swings and a long farming tradition, the Tarentaise is enjoying a winemaking revival, in particular with native grape varieties such as Mondeuse Blanche, Jacquère and Persan, which express themselves with finesse, freshness and typicity.

In stainless steel
Ageing in stainless steel is a winemaking practice aimed at preserving the freshness, aromatic integrity and varietal purity of the wine. It is used above all for white, rosé and young red wines, but also for light, easy-drinking reds that do not require maturation in wood. Stainless steel vessels are inert and impermeable to oxygen, so they do not interact with the wine: this makes it possible to bring out the fruity, floral and mineral component of the grape and of the terroir.

Ageing in bottle for 1 to 6 months is a final but fundamental stage in the development of a wine. During this period, the wine – already stabilised and bottled – continues to mature away from oxygen, developing greater harmony between its components. It is a very widespread practice for wines that have completed their ageing in stainless steel or wood and that need a minimum settling time to reach the right balance before going on sale.
