Nero di Troia
Nero di Troia is a black grape variety indigenous to Puglia, among the most fascinating and least known of the great reds of southern Italy. Marked by an elegant, spicy and tannic profile, it can give wines of great structure and longevity, especially when grown at low yields and handled with care. The name may derive from the town of Troia in the province of Foggia, but there are also theories linking it to the Troad (Asia Minor), with possible Greek origins.

Province of Foggia
The province of Foggia is one of the largest and most varied winegrowing areas in Apulia, in the far north of the region. The area takes in very different zones: the Gargano, with its limestone hills overlooking the sea, the Tavoliere delle Puglie, a fertile, sun-drenched plain, the hills of the Subappennino Dauno, a cooler, hillier area. Viticulture in Foggia is among the oldest in Apulia, and today it is at the centre of an interesting qualitative renaissance. The wines of the province range from warm, enveloping reds, such as those made from Nero di Troia and Montepulciano, to fresh, savoury whites from Bombino Bianco, Falanghina and Malvasia Bianca.
