Barbaresco DOCG

The Barbaresco DOCG is one of the most prestigious appellations in Piedmontese winegrowing, officially recognised in 1966. This red wine, made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, comes from an area of gentle hills and a favourable microclimate, which give the wine an aromatic and flavour profile of great complexity.

Characteristics of Barbaresco DOCG

Colour

  • Red: Deep garnet red, with orange highlights that develop with age.

Aromas

  • Fruity: Notes of cherry, plum and berries, interwoven with hints of jam.
  • Floral: Aromas of rose and violet, typical of Nebbiolo.
  • Spicy: Hints of black pepper, tobacco and leather, which enrich the aromatic bouquet.
  • Earthy: Notes of undergrowth and minerals that recall the terroir of the Langhe.

Palate

  • Structure: A wine of great body, with pronounced yet elegant tannins.
  • Balanced: With a freshness that balances the complexity and softness of the fruit.
  • Long: The finish is long and refined, leaving a pleasant sensation of fruit and spice.

Production Areas

The Barbaresco DOCG is produced in three main municipalities of the Piedmont region:

  • Barbaresco: The heart of the appellation, home to the most historic vineyards.
  • Neive: With soils rich in clay and limestone, which give the wines elegance.
  • Treiso: A less well-known area, but capable of producing wines of great quality and character.

Grape Variety Used

  • Nebbiolo (100%): The grape variety that symbolises Barbaresco, expressing the terroir of the Langhe to the full and giving complex, long-lived wines.

Typical Winemaking

  • Fermentation: In temperature-controlled stainless steel, to preserve the primary aromas of the grapes.
  • Ageing: In oak casks for at least 24 months, followed by a period in bottle before release.
