Grenache

The Grenache (also known as Garnacha in Spain) is one of the most widely grown black grape varieties in the world, probably originating in North-eastern Spain and widely planted in the the south of the France, where it plays a key role in the blends of the Rhône southern, as in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC. It is a versatile grape, able to produce fruity, warm reds, fragrant, fresh rosés, and natural sweet wines too (VDN).

Characterised by late ripening, Grenache loves warm, sunny climates and is at its best on poor, stony soils. Grenache wines are recognisable for their notes of ripe red fruit, sweet spice and a pleasant roundness on the palate, with soft tannins and often high alcohol.
