Beneventano and its wines

The Beneventano is a historic wine area of Campania, located in the north-east of the region around the town of Benevento. This area, characterised by rolling hills, volcanic, clay and limestone soils and a continental climate tempered by Apennine breezes, is one of the the beating hearts of Campanian winegrowing.
In the Benevento area they grow native grape varieties with a very ancient tradition, such as Falanghina, Greco, Fiano, Aglianico e Coda di Volpe, able to give rise to wines fresh, intense and authentic, increasingly appreciated both in Italy and abroad.
What is the Beneventano wine district?
The area falls mainly within the category IGP Beneventano, which gives producers great freedom of variety and style.
At the same time, many subzones have gained DOC and DOCG status:
-
Sannio DOC → A broad appellation that includes many local varieties.
-
Falanghina del Sannio DOC → Specialising in Falanghina.
-
Aglianico del Taburno DOCG → The fullest expression of the Aglianico grape in a mountain area.
-
Sannio Greco DOC e Sannio Fiano DOC → For the great local whites.
