Bordeaux and its wines
Bordeaux is one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world, in the south-west of France, along the Gironde estuary and the rivers Garonne e Dordogne. Famous for its structured, long-lived reds, Bordeaux is the home of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which together give rise to some of the most sought-after wines on the planet.
The region is divided into left bank and right bank, with distinctive terroirs and styles. The left bank (Médoc and Graves) is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, while the right bank (Saint-Émilion and Pomerol) is famous for its wines based on Merlot. As well as its reds, Bordeaux is renowned for its fresh and aromatic whites, such as those of the Graves and of theEntre-Deux-Mers, and for the famous sweet wines of Sauternes and Barsac.
