Gallura and its wines

Gallura: My personal top three

Gallura is a historic wine district of Sardinia north-eastern, between the provinces of Olbia-Tempio and part of Sassari.
Famous for its outcropping granite, sandy soils, the constant wind and the hills facing the sea and the Limbara mountains, Gallura is the the cradle of Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, the only DOCG wine in Sardinia.

The combination of altitudes between 300 and 500 metres, climate dry and breezy and poor soils gives the wines of Gallura savouriness, freshness, mineral tension and a unique ability to represent the local area.

What is the Gallura wine district?

The Gallura DOCG takes in the inland and coastal communes of the sub-region of the same name:

  • Vermentino di Gallura DOCG → produced in these versions:

The area is also well suited to producing reds from:

And of Moscato di Tempio and other aromatic whites.

Why choose a wine from Gallura?

A wine from the Gallura is perfect for those looking for Mediterranean whites with character, fresh but structured, suited not only to seafood dishes but also to cheeses, white meat and local cooking.
The reds of Gallura, less well known, are tasty, spicy, ideal with game, roasts and aged cheeses.
