Saint-Joseph and its wines

The Saint-Joseph wine area is located in the Northern Rhône Valley, on the right bank of the river Rhône. It stretches for around 60 km along the steep slopes between the municipalities of Chavanay to the north and Saint-Péray to the south. It is one of the largest and most varied areas in the region, with around 1.300 hectares of vineyards.

Climate

Saint-Joseph benefits from a unique combination of climate e soils, which contribute to the production of wines of great elegance.
  • Climate: The climate is of the continental, with cold, dry winters and hot summers, influenced by northerly winds such as the Mistral, which helps keep the vines healthy.
  • Soils: The vineyards grow on soils that are mainly granite, often covered by layers of clay e sand, which ensure excellent drainage and give the wines a marked minerality.
The steep slopes of Saint-Joseph force growers to work by hand, keeping traditional practices alive. This deep bond with the land is reflected in the quality of the wines produced, which manage to express the purity of the terroir.
